Caribbean Stud Poker Strategy

Caribbean Stud offers an interesting alternative to standard poker.  Being a game of five-card stud with the normal 52 cards pack, the cards are placed on a table similar to blackjack.  Before the cards are distributed, they are shuffled using the shuffling machine or the usual way from multi-deck "shoe".  To win in this game, players need to draw the best card and defeat the dealer.

The game is built in such a way that the players are free to plan their moves.   Experts however feel that over a period of time no strategies or technique will help much in winning due to the rules of Caribbean Stud Poker.

As per the rules of Caribbean Stud Poker, if the players want they can do a side bet for a low fee of $1.  This will take care of hands in a flush or if lucky enough even more than that.  The payoff tables can be different in different places however it will always display the most progressive jackpot.  A royal flush pays 100% of the jackpot and a straight flush will receive 10%.  If at all there is a tie between players the winner would be the first player to the right of the dealer and the second player would receive the remaining amount of the jackpot after paying the first player, mostly that is $10,000.

As the players are paid starting from right of the dealer, in case there are two winners with a straight flush the first person sitted on the right of the dealer will receive 10% of the jackpot and the other one would get 10% of the what was left after paying the first one.  For instance if player A and player B both get a straight flush and player A is to the right of the dealer and player b after him.  Out of the Jackpot for $10,000 player A gets $1,000 and player B will get 10% of $9,000, which would come to $900.

To obtain a good hand, the following strategy may help

  • If you get a pair or more only then bet.
  • Bet if you receive an Ace or a king only when the card matches with the dealers’ up card.
  • Progressive wager is to be avoided from betting.
