Poker For Dummies

Not many poker players are comfortable playing with real cash, whether they are experienced or new.  That is probably why the concept of playing free online poker was developed.  Here one can get a better idea about the rules and strategies of poker to be followed before they start playing with real money.  Although, there are a lot of variations between real and online poker and so the strategies used are also different.

To win these tournaments, a degree of seriousness has to be developed towards the game.  One should be in total charge of his moves in the game.  Following are a few tips on helping you a better player and playing the game as the professional would do.

To Holdem or to fold’em: Ascertain when the right time to hold the cards is and when it is right to fold the cards.

Many hands:  Keep a check on number of hands played, don’t overdo it.  As a matter of fact good players are observed to playing only about 20-30% of their initial hands.  Focus on the initial hands with greater value, doing this will reduce the luck factor from the game.

Observe you opponent:  When you are not playing, invest that time in observing the strategies put to use by your prospective opponent.  This is right time since once you start playing you attention will get divided between your game and your rival’s strategy.

Go for the less skilled opponents: Choosing a player who’s weak at the game may not be easy however observing the tables for sometime may help.  Reduce the limits if you aren’t winning on a regular basis.

Changing Gears: To find out weak players, most professionals wait and observe the nuts patiently.  An even weak rival is one who plays the game tight and chooses the hands with group 1 type.  You should keep changing your game; make your opponents aware of your bluffing ability and ability to play lower hands.

To succeed in poker be observant and have an urge to learn.  The more you understand and learn the more you would benefit in the long run.  Better still write down what you observe to retain it longer and then accordingly develop your own style.
